Sacred, laughing, or negative blocks: what do the results mean?
Three combinations are widely recognized in Jiaobei casting: one flat and one rounded side up is often a sacred (affirmative) result; both flat sides up is laughing (not a clear answer); both rounded sides up is negative (often read as no). Temple and regional interpretations can differ.
Sacred blocks (sheng jiao): one of each
One flat face and one rounded face are visible. This is commonly read as agreement or a favorable response within traditional practice.
Laughing blocks (xiao jiao): both flat sides up
This is often treated as an unclear response: the question might be ambiguous or the situation might call for reflection. It should not be presented as a universal “neutral” vote.
Negative blocks (yin jiao): both rounded sides up
This is commonly read as refusal or disagreement. Rules about asking again depend on local custom.
